Launched in the middle of 2003, Google AdSense is an advertising application that is being run by Google Inc. It lets website owners earn profit by selling advertising spaces for businesses in their websites. Site owners can register to this service so they can place text, image, and/or video advertisements on their websites. This is one of the ways a website owner can earn extra money. These ads are managed by Google and can produce profits through either a per-click or per-impression source.

As the company who manages AdSense, Google plays the role of mediator between a huge number of advertisers and a similarly remarkable quantity of website owners. AdSense is an impressive application as it has become a common tool for bloggers and other noncommercial websites. All you have to do is sign up, free up some spaces on your website for the ads, insert a few lines of code that is provided by Google into the HTML for your site, and Google will place advertisements to your pages that suit your website design. When a website visitor clicks on one of the advertisements, you can expect a fee from Google. The payment, however, will vary as most companies do not reveal their compensations.

Google’s Internet search technology is the main tool that they used to determine how they provide advertisements to a website. Some of the factors that define what type of ads will be placed on a web page include website content and the geographical location of the user. Less interfering ads and ads that are pertinent to the content of the webpage are some of the reasons why Google AdSense is now a popular way of putting ads on a lot of websites.

However, AdSense can be a little difficult for e-commerce websites since you have no total control over what types of ads will be placed on your site. As a company website, you would not want ads from your competitors to be placed on your site, or product ads rivaling the products that you are trying to sell. Although Google decides which ads will appear on your site, you can, somehow, filter out some advertisements.

Even if you cannot choose which ads are placed on your website, Google, nonetheless, does an awesome job in evaluating your web content and providing ads that may stir the interest of your readers. But in order for this to work, your site must be clear regarding its content and purpose. If your website is not evidently in relation to anything, it might be difficult for Google AdSense to provide substantially significant ads.
